This is just the kind of stuff that Lakhnawi film buffs dig into; an exhibition tracing cinema centred in Lucknow, or the Awadh of yore. Filmi Duniya Mein Awadh brings together various elements of Lucknow in the history of Bollywood. For one, there are poster of films based in Lucknow – from Pakeezah to Bullett Raja, from the iconic Umrao Jaan to the entirely forgettable Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh, from Shatranj Ke Khiladi, set in pre-Independence Lucknow to the more recent Manjunath.

Popular shooting locations in the city and the cinema houses of Lucknow form the other elements of the exhibition. And then there’s the section dedicated to film personalities from Lucknow – 71 in all.
A separate section on the behind-the-scenes photos from Muzaffar Ali’s films – all of which have been shot in Lucknow partially or entirely – also finds the pride of place right at the entrance. Ali has shared photos from the shooting of Umrao Jaan and Gaman among others. There are also pics of a much younger Ali among the selection. Filmmaker Shyam Benegal too has shared photos from the filming of Junoon, another Lucknow-centric film, which form part of the exhibition at Safed Baradari.
